The scientific name is Antidesma Bunius, a species of fruit tree in the Phyllanthaceae.
It is native to Southeast Asia.
In English, it is more popular as a salamander tree, Chinese laurel and currant tree.
Other common names include that of choi moi in Vietnam; berunai in Malaysia,
ma mao luang in Thailand; kho-lien tit in Laos; and wooni or hooni in Indonesia.
The fruits are spherical and just under a centimeter wide, hanging singly or paired in long, heavy bunches.
They are white when immature and gradually turn red, then black.
